Iranti is proud to announce the newest member to our management team, Phumzi Manana who has taken on the role of Media and Communications Manager, heading up the media team. As our team grows, so does our media-making knowledge, and in turn so does our ability to document the lived experiences of queer Africans, in an attempt to bring impactful stories to the public.
Born and raised in Mpumalanga, Phumzi has a degree in Journalism and Media studies from Rhodes University. She has spent the past several years in the film and television industry; as a researcher, editor, director and publicist. She has been part of several well-known international and local productions, and we are excited to have her join our team here at Iranti.
“I’ve always been a story teller, and I believe that it is our duty as media makers to tell the stories of those who are silenced. I joined Iranti to contribute to the amazing work I’d seen them doing; and I’m so grateful to be a part of this team and feel that I have found my home”.
Phumzi hopes that Iranti’s platform can be used to extend the security she knows to everyone who needs it. She envisions a world where everyone is free to be who they are.
“As a queer black woman who has the privilege to be myself it never escapes me that others aren’t so lucky. I am tired of shaking my head every time one of our community is murdered and not knowing what to do about it.” |
